*unfortunately, most of the plugins used in this workshop are not compatible with the beta version of Grasshopper for Mac. A Mac running OS X is not sufficient for this workshop. Consider installing Windows via Boot Camp.

Grasshopper Plugins

This two-day workshop explores twelve popular Grasshopper plugins for accomplishing various objectives.

Centipede Allows the user to keyframe the animation of multiple objects in Grasshopper along a single slider.

FabTools is a plugin that allows you to handle a lot of tasks when working for document production. The different tools improve the ability of Grasshopper to set properties to geometry.

Firefly is a plugin for connecting Rhino to the Arduino microcontroller and other input/output devices like web cams, mobile phones, game controllers and more.

Galapagos is an evolutionary solver available in the current Grasshopper build. It applies evolutionary logic for solving optimization algorithms setup in Grasshopper.

Hoopsnake is a component that enables feedback loops (recursion) within Grasshopper.

Horster is a camera control tool that makes it easy to control the camera in Rhino’s viewport via Grasshopper.

Human is a plugin that extends Grasshopper's ability to create and reference geometry including lights, blocks, and text objects. Also enables access to information about the active Rhino document, pertaining to materials, layers, linetypes, and other settings.

Kangaroo is a Live Physics engine for interactive simulation, form-finding, optimization and constraint solving.

Ladybug+Honeybee are two environmental plugins for creating environmentally-conscious building design. Ladybug is an open source environmental plugin for Grasshopper3D that helps architects and engineers create an environmentally-conscious architectural design.  Ladybug imports standard EnergyPlus Weather files (.EPW) into Grasshopper and provides a variety of 3D interactive graphics to support the decision-making process during the initial stages of design. Honeybee connects Grasshopper3D to EnergyPlus, Radiance, Daysim and OpenStudio for building energy and daylighting simulation. The Honeybee project intends to make many of the features of these simulation tools available in a parametric way.

Mosquito is a plugin that allows one to tap into social, financial and popular media. Extracting location, profiles, images and messages from Facebook,Twitter, Topsy etc.

SpiderWeb is a plugin that provides functionality for performing calculations on graphs. The library is created with a special focus on the integration of graphs and graph related theories in parametric design environments.

Weaverbird is a topological modeler that contains many of the known subdivision and transformation operators, readily usable by designers. Instead of doing the work repeatedly, or sometimes using complicated scripts, this plug-in reconstructs the shape, subdivides any mesh, even made by polylines, and helps preparing for fabrication.

About the Instructors
